Gah, now it's getting heavy. All my class assignments are bunching up and due within three days of each other. Oh well, can't be helped. In other news, Jeffrey's birthday is today and we're having a party at the White Horse to celebrate. It's at 8pm and from what they tell me The Calypso Nuts will be performing too. Yay! So, if any friends are in the area, give me a ring and I'll add you to the guest list.

Well what do you know. Carrot or DEATH, DEATH or Carrot? Who knew?

You scored as Carrot Ironfounderson. You are Captain Carrot Ironfounderson of the City Watch in the greatest city on the Disc. Ankh-Morprok! A truly good natured, honest guy, who knows everyone, and is liked by all. Technically a dwarf, but only by adoption. You'd rather not be reminded that you are the true heir to the throne, but that does explain why people naturally follow your orders:

Hiya everyone,
Firsty, to Ysabet. Hope to see you online soon, I got stuff to show you. I do remember that I volunteered for this. Why do you think I waited so very long to get started. I have some time now and things are settling down pretty well. My schedule is steady and my workloads are light. Jeffrey is easy enough to get along with (besides his room). No worries about me. Besides, I'm having lots of fun setting up the software, figuring out how to get the words from here to there, and then making them all look good. I have a text divider graphic that I figured out how to use today and that means that I can insert a graphic anywhere. Almost any kind of graphic. With the permission of the gracious author I would like to make a call for artwork relating to Windfall. I'm learning that the quotes that are in Word don't translate well and that scripts, find and replace, and really good proofers (Thanks Mel!) are your friends. I enjoy this like I enjoy woodworking or blacksmithing. I had forgotten just how satisfying it is to have something to show for all your hard work at the end of the day.
Service is what I do. It's a part of who I am. I am slowly realizing that although I serve to keep the computers running, it is not enough or is the wrong kind of service. I miss the excitement of the lists and the splendor of court. The planning and serving of meals. Seeing the joy on the faces of friends and stranger alike when their bellies are full of good food and their spirits are filled with cheer. I will go back, just not yet. There are things to resolve still.
So, If it would please you, allow me to serve in this capability.

Respectfully,
Your servant should you have me,
Edwired

A long time ago, in a what seems a galaxy far, far away I offered to do a thing for Ysabet. Now an epoch has passed and I have actually started doing it. What I am referring to is typesetting that little piece of work called Windfall. I can't find my Pagemaker, Framemaker is discontinued, and InDesign crashes on page two every time. This is very frustrating. It's time to get out the big guns.
LaTex, an open sourced, high end, professional level typesetting system. It will run on almost any operating system and on almost any platform. There are several graphical front ends available for each of the Windows, MacOS X, and X11. The source document is a marked up text file that is run through the program and outputs a device specific file. With the proper plug-ins the files produced include PDF, PS, XML, HTML, and a variety of others.
So having said all that I should get on to say that I have the first 13 chapters converted to the .tex format. The first four chapters have been consolidated into the book form and total almost 100 pages. I'll try working a chapter a day for most of the next couple of weeks.

Enough said.
signing off.

Night.

Believe it or not it seems that I'm going to try this LJ thing again. But what to write, that is always the question of the moment. At this point I write very bad fiction and can't draw worth a damn. What I am good at is trying to be encouraging and supportive for those I care about. I am all ya'alls number one fan.
So, where to start. How about a simple day. It's Monday of another work week. The Sandman had decided to play "catch me if you can" with me last night and so I didn't get to sleep until after 4:00am, which really is a pain since I'm supposed to get up at 5:30. As you can probably guess, that did not happen. Go figure. I did make it out of bed in time to be only 15 minutes late. Not a good start. Still not as bad as it could have been, I beat everyone who cares into the office. ^^
No real tragedies over the weekend, just a phantom laptop. It kept rebooting itself. Easy fix with a file replacement. Lots of little stuff over the course of the day. A lost password here and there, add some new software, "upgrade me!! from one of the project managers. We got the new antennas for the Cisco access points, yay! Stuff to do for tomorrow.
I did something that was good for the soul today as well. During one of my breaks, on a whim, I logged into the online Shakespeare library and read two scenes from King Henry the Fifth. The St. Crispin's Day speech and the last scene involving Henry's courtship of Katherine. Both left me feeling moved by the power and majesty of these scenes. Silly me to try and share this feeling with my coworkers. I was three for three who just could not understand why someone would read Shakespeare on their break. Mostly they just laughed at me. Oh well, their loss.
Not bad for a first new entry so I'll leave it at this.

Good Night

Hello everyone,
OK here goes. My son has moved back in with me and everybody's walking on eggshells. So far, so good. I'm thinking it will all work out. I may have helped a friend find a job and I got a new puppy on Thursday. Not a dog of course, but a Sony Puppy fingerprint ID device. It's pretty cool. Performed major surgery on a G4 Titanium today. Had to replace a hard drive, the screen, the bottom cover, and the DVD drive. Whew. Works fine when I was done and no extra parts left over. Just hanging loose tonight and planning on sleeping in tomorrow. That's about it. Night all.

Hi everyone,
Well, we made it through Isabel and with not too much damage. Were without power and water for several days but that wasn't too bad as we had plenty of candles and bottled water. Freezer died and had to toss everything in it, the fridge as well. Nobody got hurt and the cars weren't touched. Still haven't gone back to work. Think the biggest thing I missed was being able to talk to everyone on line. Hope everyone else is OK and missed everyone. Take care. See you later.

Usually getting home is not such an accomplishment. Today was different. A quick trip to the eye doctor, some drops, a "thank you, come again" from the nurse, and I'm out the door in some cool new shades trying to find my car. I found the car somehow and away I go. Cars and people I could see, don't ask how fast I was going, I couldn't see the dash! Back to work I go, everybody gets a good laugh at my stumbling around and I'm ok with that. Just wish that I could actually do my job, did a lot of "could you describe what you are seeing..." and that was ok too. After two hours of this I was getting a headache and so I gave up and came home. Made this entry and off to a nap until my eyes come back.

See ya!
